India is expected to surpass China around 2025 as the most populous nation; the US will stay in third place with an expected 423 million people. Some countries will see declining birth rates, China is expected to stabilize with a steady 1.3 billion population but Russia will decrease from 139-million people to 109-million, the article cites low life expectancy in Russia due to poor diet and alcoholism. Other nations on tract to grow massively are Nigeria and Ethiopia. Nigeria is expected to grow from 166 million people to 402 million. And Ethiopia is apparently likely to triple from 91-million to 278-million. The report states this is likely to compound the serious food supply issues in some African countries.
